Narrowbanding
Deadlines
Private land mobile users need to aggressively develop a strategy to meet narrowband deadlines to avoid cancellation of existing wideband FCC authorizations. The first important deadlines is January 1, 2011, after which the FCC will cease granting applications for new or expanded operations using 25 kHz channels. The FCC will also prohibit the manufacture of certain 25 kHz equipment. The migration deadline is January 1, 2013, and operators not in compliance by that date face the loss of communications capabilities. Cost effective planning for uninterrupted service must begin right away. See the National Institute of Justice for more information.
